Who we are

The Chair (also referred to as "The Chair App," "we," "us," or "our") is a mobile marketplace that connects clients with independent barbers in Canada.

This Privacy Policy applies to information collected through:

• Our website at getchairapp.com
• The Chair mobile applications (iOS and Android)
• Any related services, communications, or events we operate

The Chair is operated by 1001646125 Ontario Incorporated, a corporation registered in the Province of Ontario, Canada.

Information we collect

Information you provide

• Account info: name, email address, phone number, password, profile photo, city.
• Barber-specific info: business name, portfolio photos, specialties, service list, pricing, business address, languages spoken, booking-platform link, and (where required) proof of licence and government-issued ID for verification.
• Client-specific info: saved barbers, style preferences, appointment history.
• Communication: messages you send other users or our support team, and reviews you write.
• Payment info: if you subscribe as a barber, our payment processor (e.g. Stripe) collects your billing details. We do not store full payment card numbers on our servers.

Information we collect automatically

• Device info: device type, operating system, unique device identifiers, mobile network information.
• Usage data: pages viewed, features used, time spent, referring URLs, crash logs.
• Location data: approximate location based on IP address, or precise location if you grant permission (used to show barbers near you).
• Cookies & similar technologies: see our Cookies Policy.

Information from third parties

• If you sign up with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email and profile photo from those services.
• Analytics providers (e.g. Google Analytics) send us aggregated usage data.

How we use your data

We use your information to:

• Create and manage your account
• Display barbers near you and help you discover, message, and book them
• Let barbers manage their profile, respond to clients, and receive reviews
• Process barber subscription payments
• Send transactional notifications (booking confirmations, review requests, security alerts)
• Send marketing communications when you've opted in (you can unsubscribe any time)
• Verify barber identity and licensing where legally required
• Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms
• Improve The Chair through analytics and product research
• Comply with legal obligations

How we share your data

We share your data only in these situations:

With other users on the platform

• Your public profile (name, photo, bio, portfolio, reviews) is visible to other users of The Chair.
• Messages you send are visible to their recipient.
• Reviews are public unless posted anonymously.

With service providers

We share data with vendors who help us run the service, including:

• Hosting & infrastructure: cloud hosting providers
• Payments: Stripe (or similar) for barber subscription billing
• Email & SMS: transactional email and messaging providers
• Analytics: aggregated usage analytics providers
• Customer support: help-desk software

These providers are contractually bound to protect your data and use it only to provide services to us.

For legal reasons

We may disclose data if required by law, to respond to a valid legal request, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of The Chair, our users, or the public.

In a business transfer

If The Chair is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred as part of that deal. We'll notify you before your data is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

What we do NOT do

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it with advertisers for third-party ad targeting.

Cookies & tracking

Our website and app use cookies and similar technologies (like SDKs and pixels) for authentication, remembering preferences, analytics and — with your consent — marketing.

Data retention

We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active, plus a reasonable period after — typically:

• Account data: retained while your account is active; deleted within 30 days of account deletion
• Booking & review records: retained for up to 3 years after your last activity (for dispute resolution)
• Financial records: retained for 7 years to comply with Canadian tax law
• Support tickets: retained for 2 years
• Marketing preferences: retained until you unsubscribe

Backup copies may persist for a short period after deletion, but are automatically overwritten.

Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
• Delete your account and associated data — visit getchairapp.com/account-deletion/ or use the in-app option
• Export a copy of your data in a portable format
• Withdraw consent for marketing or optional processing at any time
• Object to certain processing, including for direct marketing
• Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (or your local data protection authority if you're outside Canada)

Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including:

• TLS/SSL encryption for data in transit
• Encryption at rest for sensitive information
• Access controls, least-privilege permissions, and audit logs
• Regular security reviews and vulnerability testing
• Employee training on data protection

No system is 100% secure. If we discover a breach that affects you, we'll notify you and the appropriate authorities in line with applicable law.

Children's privacy

The Chair is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe we have collected data from a child, please contact us and we'll delete it.

International transfers

The Chair is based in Canada. If you use our services from outside Canada, your information will be transferred to and processed in Canada, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) to protect your data during international transfers.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll notify you by email or through the app before they take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page always shows when the policy was last revised.
